Internships
Gordon’s Summer Internship Program is a comprehensive opportunity for college students and young professionals to experience the broad spectrum of civil engineering and land development consulting services across a wide range of exciting project types and sizes.
Interns are typically integrated with Gordon project teams in pairs and mentored by two project-level engineers. Interns rotate through teams of land planners, water resources engineers, landscape architects, as well as field survey and survey computing professionals. Interns can look forward to site visits in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and West Virginia – or remotely supporting federal programs across the country.
Gordon interns are assigned a multitude of tasks ranging from plan markups to creating plan sheets to mobilizing on-site visits with project team members. Interns will gain valuable experience with a wide range of industry software and computational methods – most prominently AutoCAD Civil3D – providing a ‘real-world’ context for their academic course work. Individual tasks and workloads are tailored to each intern’s AutoCAD experience and abilities to support that individual’s growth and skill advancement throughout the summer.

This Opportunity
Our team is seeking Civil Engineering Interns and full-time Graduate Civil Engineers for its Land Development Engineering Department in its Chantilly, VA office as well as for its sister firm GordonDC in its Washington, DC office. The paid internships are for part-time or full-time hours.
Eligible candidates will work on exciting and diverse projects of all sizes in the public and private sector. Project types include mixed-use/transit-oriented design, government facilities, residential, commercial, office, utilities and infrastructure, mission critical/data centers, parks, schools, and more. Our staff of Civil Engineers, Landscape Architects, Planners, Security Consultants, and Surveyors work together in an enjoyable work atmosphere where the employees’ goals are as important as the corporate goals.
Minimum requirements include enrollment in a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Computer skills with proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil3D is preferred.
The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
Civil Engineering Intern & Graduate Engineers (Water Resources Team)
Our team is seeking Civil Engineering Interns and full-time Graduate Engineers for the Water Resources Department in our Chantilly, VA office.
Eligible candidates will work on exciting and diverse projects of all sizes in the public and private sector. Project types include mixed-use/transit-oriented design, government facilities, residential, commercial, office, utilities and infrastructure, mission critical, industrial, parks, schools, and more. The Water Resources department works on stormwater management design (land development applications), stormwater construction inspections, stormwater operation and maintenance, floodplain analysis and permitting, and dam breach analysis and permitting. Our staff of Civil Engineers, Landscape Architects, Planners, Security Consultants, and Surveyors work together in an enjoyable work atmosphere where the employees’ goals are as important as the corporate goals.
Minimum requirements include enrollment in a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Biological Systems Engineering. Computer skills with proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil3D is preferred.
